Museum Night on May 17th in Nice

This event will be a preamble to the decision made by the city council on April 14th about free admission to all museums in Nice starting from July 1st, 2008.

PROGRAM

“Night of Museums” at the Museum of Fine Arts:
Guided tours at 4 pm and 6 pm will let the public appreciate the re-hanging dedicated to Marie Bashkirseff and her contemporaries, friends, and rivals.

“Night of Museums” at the Museum of Human Paleontology of Terra Amata:
Guided tour in the evening.

“Night of Museums” at Lascaris Palace:
Starting from 8 pm, the public can discover two new acquisitions of Lascaris Palace:
– The harp of Jean-Henri Naderman, dated 1780.
– The guestbook of Marguerite Chambovet (unpublished manuscripts of Berlioz, Thalberg, Tamburini, Chateaubriand, Agathe-Sophie Sasserno).
At 9 pm, the Voxabulaire Ensemble will offer a concert of Madrigals by Stefano Rossetti, a composer from Nice from the 16th century.

“Night of Museums” at the Massรฉna Palace and the Theater of Photography and Image:
Self-guided tour of the establishment, collections or the current exhibition.

“Night of Museums” at MAMAC:
From 7 pm to midnight, three “event” moments are planned: the lighting of Yves Klein’s Wall of Fire, a concert by Gilles Mottet in the American Abstraction room, and the projection of the videography about the inhabited space of CNES, in the Klein room.

Concert Program:
MAMAC and Why Not… Co-incidence?
A collective of composers and performers will offer a wandering concert through the rooms of the permanent collection. Performances and Slam poetry are on the program, taking the listener on a journey through the unique musical and poetic universe of the following compositions:
– Theatre piece by John Cage.
– Solo and Cadence for solo flute by Bruno Maderna.
– 2 Slams “Communicating what” and “great mechanical sigh” by Pascal Giovannetti.
– Dias de los Muertos for guitar and percussion by Terry Riley.
– Words have gone for cello by Luciano Berio.

“Night of Museums” at the Natural History Museum:
Guided tour of the botanical reserves (collections and documentation) discussing their role in understanding sustainable development challenges.

“Night of Museums” at the Museum and Archaeological Site of Nice Cemenelum:
This European evening allows the public to enter after 6 pm as part of a festive program. Many activities are planned:
– a show on The Legends of Water, designed and performed by 6th-grade students of Port Lympia College.
– musical participation by students from the Conservatory.
– the play Tiny Histories of Theatre or The entire history of theater from Antiquity to today, presented by Company BAL.
– pottery workshops around the fire.
– staging by the Club of Savanturiers.
– discovering the museum’s collections, immersed in darkness, “by flashlight”.
