Against the last team in the championship, Nice Cavigal Handball triumphed brilliantly.
After achieving the feat of beating Saran last weekend (34-29), Nice confirms this good result. Facing Angers, last in the Proligue standings, the Azuréens played a well-controlled game. At the very start of the match, neither team could take the lead. But that didn’t last very long.
Cavigal quickly took the upper hand over their opponent and set their pace. The Angevins, inaccurate offensively and facing a solid block, struggled to find cracks. Nice quickly took a 3-goal lead (5-2). Quickly counterattacking upon ball recovery, SCO had no opportunity and suffered throughout the match.
Yet, on a few occasions, the Niçois slightly let up. This allowed the locals to come back to the score (8-8). Enough to keep hope alive, but Nice immediately tightened their play. Hope existed but was short-lived. The gap from the start of the match reappeared. No goals were conceded in the last six minutes of the first half. At half-time, the visitors logically led 13-9.
A controlled second half
Cavigal didn’t falter during the second half. In total control, Asier Antonio’s players managed not to be trapped by a team that has only two victories to its credit. Yet, the first few minutes were tough. Angers came back to 13-11 and even had a great chance to get within one point of their opponent, but the Nice goalkeeper made a superb save. The first ten minutes were difficult. But the machine eventually got going again, and the Azuréens managed to regain a significant lead (19-14).
Nice comfortably managed their lead, keeping their opponent far behind on the scoreboard. SCO couldn’t reverse the trend despite the opportunities, particularly at the beginning of the second half. The visitors won 29-25, marking a second consecutive victory. A good streak to continue next week against Pontault, 3rd in the championship.
