Since the French women’s team won two medals at the world championships in 2009 and 2011 and finished 5th at the London Olympics in 2012, and also thanks to the remarkable results of the French men’s team, Handball is a rapidly developing sport and is occupying an increasingly significant place in the sporting landscape of Nice.
Within this dynamic, the OGC Nice women’s Handball team is approaching the new 2014-2015 season with a brand new face. Itโs a club that has just recruited nine new handball players with the ambition to position itself among the best clubs in the championship.
The summer transfer market allowed the managers to act quickly and to be able to buy two great players from the French team, Alexandra LACRABERE and goalkeeper Clรฉopรขtre DARLEUX.
The Brazilian world champion, Samira DA ROCHA, the Icelandic Karen KNUTSDOTTIR, and the experienced Bรฉatrice EDWIGE as well as Manon SOL. Dienaba SY, Aissatou KOUYATE, and Fanny CHATELLET have also made their appearance within a roster that saw six of its players leave the club, including two players who have retired.
The Deputy Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, was very pleased with how the club was being managed. โI would like to thank all the people who contributed to the development of this team and strengthened it this year with the integration of talented players. My eyes are shining tonight.โ
The Mayor of Nice also wanted to add that this sport is close to his heart. โWe all know I am a sports fan, even though football holds an important place in this city, I want handball to be a driving force for sports in Nice and I will do everything I can to ensure it occupies the beautiful place it deserves.โ
It is in this euphoria that the new team jerseys were also unveiled, and with a big smile, the Mayor of Nice, in the presence of Ange Ferracci, the president of OGC Nice Handball, along with all the staff members, players, and managers, discovered the outfits they will wear throughout the season, in the red and black colors that clearly represent OGC Nice.
