As part of the French presidency of the European Union, the 27 Finance Ministers and the governors of the European central banks will meet on September 12 and 13 in Nice.

During this informal meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), they will assess the financial markets’ situation and attempt to find solutions to the financial disruptions currently unsettling Europe.
Thus, they will consider ways to “strengthen the solidity of the European financial system” and will begin a discussion on reduced VAT rates.
They will also review the economic situation in Europe, notably the state of the oil market and the causes of the spike in oil prices.
Finally, the ministers will examine the issue of executive remuneration.

As was the case in 2006 during the conference of the Interior Ministers of Western Mediterranean, the organization of this new international meeting will balance the daily lives of the residents of Nice with a high level of security. Traffic will therefore be disrupted from Thursday, September 11.

Throughout the duration of the event, the areas around the exhibition center and Acropolis will be closed to traffic. Access to the Pierre Mathis expressway (entry and exit) is also likely to be affected.

Regarding parking, it will be prohibited from Wednesday, September 10 at 8 PM, to Saturday, September 13 at 3 PM on several sections of roads in the immediate vicinity of the Acropolis-Exhibition Center area and the accommodation and dining places for ministerial authorities.

The Nice prefecture recommends that residents use public transportation. The tram will operate normally, but some bus lines may be altered.
