This Friday, the municipal police gathered in front of Haliotis, on the Promenade des Anglais. The objective was to carry out an operation against speeding violations. The deputy mayor, Anthony Borrรฉ, took the opportunity to highlight the significant increase in accidents and infractions. Strong measures will soon be implemented.
“All the neighborhood committees are requesting speed checks,” explains the deputy mayor. He made it a point to be present this Friday to emphasize the seriousness of recent road tragedies caused by speed. Already six fatal accidents in 2024, which justifies more frequent checks.
A meticulous operation
To issue fines, they are organized. Positioned 500 meters apart, two groups of the municipal police communicate to apprehend speeding drivers. As illustrated above, one is responsible for collecting information on the vehicle using a scope, while the other apprehends it once the car reaches their position. “We need as many details as possible, namely the license plate, the model, and the color of the car,” specifies Romain Bernardi, a police officer on site. Naturally, the issuance of fines will depend on the severity of the infraction.
An Objective: Reduce Danger on Niceโs Roads
“Achieve better results than what they currently are,” is the ambition of the city of Nice, clearly stated by Anthony Borrรฉ. According to him, Christian Estrosi will announce strong measures starting in September. These will involve strengthening road safety at the local level, in line with a national initiative. For the record, in 2023, 173 fines were recorded, with already twenty more this year.
