Opinion Piece by Christian Estrosi on Eric Zemmour

Latest News

Christian Estrosi expressed his opposition to Eric Zemmour regarding the upcoming presidential election.

The Mayor of Nice does not mince his words about the supposed future presidential candidate.

He believes that Zemmour is too highlighted in the media. “Eric Zemmour is in the spotlight. He has been setting the themes and driving the tempo of the pre-presidential campaign for several weeks now. This is the result of the decline malaise that plagues our society, of his provocations which the media indulge in, and of social networks often turned into cesspools of conspiracy. It is finally the consequence of the abyssal void in the democratic debate with a non-existent left and a right that has lost all its bearings. He is a symptom, a version of the far-right adjusted for seasonal variations.”

Christian Estrosi criticizes the Republicans for not opposing Eric Zemmour enough.

“The left is too busy managing its divisions to confront him. In reality, it should have been the right’s responsibility, whose voters he intends to siphon off, to lead the counterattack. Unfortunately, they have abandoned this fight. It is now pointless to rely on them to go on the offensive. How could they when, within their ranks, some of their leaders have long since allied with the far-right and even claim that they would vote for Eric Zemmour in the second round against a republican and progressive candidate?”
Mr. Estrosi also targets Republicans who support Eric Zemmour. “He advocates for the confusion of the right-wing and some, within my former political family, make pacts with this madness. There is no continuum between the republican right and the far-right. There is an irreparable difference in nature.”

He who claims to be Gaullist is outraged that the journalist does the same.

“I have observed for a good decade this trend of new-look Gaullism: everyone dons a piece of the General’s outfit, including those who fought him so harshly. They all flock to Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises and evoke his legacy with tremors in their voices. It makes me smile. But when I hear Eric Zemmour claim it and assert that he is rebuilding the RPR, I no longer laugh. Indignation overwhelms me.

The Mayor of Nice asserts his negative opinion and his fight against the supposed future candidate.

“Deep down, Eric Zemmour is the power of hatred, hatred wanting to claim power. As Gaullists, we must not simply state that we have nothing to do with him or his anathemas. That is too little. We must fight them with all our strength, in the name of the past, in the name of the future.”
