Renaud Muselier and Jean Leonetti are committed to an action plan aimed at eliminating plastic waste by 2030.

Waste remains an eternal problem for the environment. Plastic is currently highlighted for its extreme danger in the marine environment, a prominent part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. To fight for the defense of the environment, Renaud Muselier, the president of the region, has committed to implementing a Climate Plan, “built around 100 concrete actions composed of 5 axes to which we dedicate more than 30% of our budget each year.”

Among these actions is the elimination of plastic waste, which is difficult and time-consuming to implement. Therefore, the region has decided to launch a “Zero Plastic Waste” program by 2030. This action plan consists of four specific objectives: combating marine pollution, recycling tons of plastic waste, supporting the development of recycling sectors, and eliminating plastic waste. For this mission, Renaud Muselier can count on the support of the Sophia Antipolis Agglomeration Community.

The “A COP Ahead” label awarded to Jean Leonetti

The signatory of the “Zero Plastic Waste” Charter commits to managing and enhancing plastic waste, implementing a rational use of plastic materials, and raising awareness of reduction in these wastes. This will now be the task of Jean Leonetti, mayor of Antibes Juan-les-Pins and president of the Sophia Antipolis Agglomeration Community, the new signatory: “This is a project that fits into an intention of intergenerational transmission. The strategy developed today allows for awareness in waste management. I am very pleased to see the region’s commitment to this issue.”

To conclude the festivities, Renaud Muselier presented the “A COP Ahead” label to Jean Leonetti. This label rewards those involved in protecting the planet. “The Southern region is an exceptional territory. Today, more than ever, we continue to support and encourage all those who will make the Southern region exemplary,” details Renaud Muselier. Jean Leonetti also presented Renaud Muselier with a recyclable glass paperweight depicting the ramparts of Antibes.
