The gardens of Villa Massรฉna (what place could have been more symbolically chosen?) provided the setting for the official reception of the “National Reservist Day” in which nearly 250 reservists (both military and civilian) from the department took part, in the presence of civil and military authorities.
Reservists are former military personnel or civilians who, in a civic spirit, voluntarily make themselves available to be mobilized in case of events that require it.
This event, organized jointly by the City of Nice, the Institute of Advanced Studies in National Defense, and the Military Departmental Delegation, allowed for honoring the commitment of the reservists of the Alpes-Maritimes.
Notably, three operational reservists received Certificates of Commendation from Colonel Gaรซl Marchand.
In their address, the military authorities emphasized the importance of the role, while Prefect Adolphe Colrat wanted to highlight the application of republican values in this challenging period for more than one reason.
Christian Estrosi, who had established an innovative municipal operational reserve in France since 2010, called the “Civil and Citizen Reserve,” was carried away into considerations of geostrategy, geopolitics, and foreign policy: comments that weren’t quite appropriate, but it’s known that the Mayor of Nice particularly enjoys these flights, which, in a way, are also somewhat his trademark.
