After a good start to the tournament, winning against Kalinina in the first round and then Ann Li in the second, Nice native Diane Parry pulled off a major upset this Saturday by eliminating sixth seed Amanda Anisimova.
Sensational Nice native Diane Parry will compete in the second week of Roland Garros 2026
In the first set, Amanda Anisimova was the first to break serve, but Diane Parry reacted immediately. At 4-3 in her favor, the Frenchwoman shifted into high gear and earned another break to serve for the set. She ultimately clinched it on her third set point winning 6-3. Solid on her serve with notably 5 aces, the Nice native also made the difference in terms of consistency, with 11 unforced errors compared to 17 for the American.
The start of the second set was particularly closely contested between the two players. Like in the first set, Amanda Anisimova was the first to break serve to lead 3-2, but the Frenchwoman immediately responded to level the score. Ultimately, Diane Parry cracked at the worst possible moment: at 5-4 against her, on her own serve, she lost her service game and allowed the American to take the second set 6-4. More aggressive, Anisimova regained her form, scoring 10 winners (4 for Parry). The American won a total of 75% of points on her serve.
In the third set, the two players traded blows all the way to the super tie-break, after each breaking serve once. More aggressive, Amanda Anisimova dictated play with more winners (16), but she also made more unforced errors (27). After all the suspense, it was ultimately the Nice native who proved to be the most solid, winning 10 points to 3. Diane Parry advances to the quarterfinals after this hard-fought victory. Final score: 6/3-4/6-7/6. She will face Polish player Maja Chwalińska.
Diane Parry is therefore the only French player still in contention. On the men’s side, the only Frenchman still competing, Moïse Kouamé, is currently playing his 3rd round match against Alejandro Tabilo.
