Since 2008, Alpes-Maritimes Fraternité has been publishing a religious calendar, a symbol of fraternal relations between different faiths. It lists the main religious holidays and outlines the core principles of each religion. Today, the annual calendar for 2021 is finally available!
Created in 2007 at the initiative of Christian Estrosi, Alpes-Maritimes Fraternité is a dialogue platform that brings together representatives of monotheistic and Buddhist faiths, as well as associations promoting coexistence in the city. It works for peace, freedom, and respect among all people, regardless of their faith (Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists…).
About Alpes-Maritimes Fraternité
Alpes-Maritimes Fraternité is a flexible, coherent, and efficient structure that encourages and promotes interfaith dialogue. The members of Alpes-Maritimes Fraternité aim to give full meaning to the word Fraternity, which is part of the republican motto.
This body aims to combat extremism, communal isolation, fanaticism, and violence, enabling each faith and citizen to thrive freely with guarantees of freedom and equality.
The members of AMF want to be, together, builders of peace and fraternity in the City of Nice, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, and the Department of Alpes-Maritimes, in order to develop the potential for exchanges, spiritual openness, and mutual cultural enrichment.
The words of the Mayor of Nice
The Mayor of the city of Nice, Christian Estrosi, emphasizes how hope, faith, and love of life help to erase the most painful moments, like the attack at the Notre-Dame Basilica last October.
We are living in difficult times, times when humans are tempted to give in to resignation. The attack on October 29, 2020, at the Notre-Dame Basilica once again plunged our city and France into mourning. But we must show even more resilience, and our individual and collective responsibility is to continue speaking to you of Faith, Love, and Hope.
Faith, of course, is primarily a religious value, a conviction. But having faith is more than that. Having faith also means believing in humanity, again and again, because for every deplorable person, there are millions of wonderful people who do and embody good.
Then Love, because it prevents us from acting hatefully, nastily, or criminally. It is the love of beautiful things, of those we cherish; it is simply the love of Life. Hope, finally, because without it, we would not be standing as men and women. We would only be passive citizens.
Hope is what remains when we have nothing left. It is the hope of Charles de Gaulle, alone in London, far from his country which seems forever crushed. It is the hope of those who have lost everything but still find in themselves the wisdom, strength, and courage to rise up, to look to the future and commit to it with confidence and enthusiasm.
I wish you a wonderful year 2021, a year of hope.
The 2021 “Alpes Maritimes Fraternité” calendar is now available! It is freely available to the public in places of worship and municipal sites: main and annex town halls, AnimaNice, senior centers, community centers, regional headquarters, libraries…, but also on the website: https://www.alpes-maritimes-fraternite.fr/
