The first stone of the rehabilitation and elevation project of the school canteen at Bayle was laid in Auribeau-sur-Siagne. The project, estimated at 2.6 million euros, aims to strengthen child safety against flood risk and improve catering conditions. The Alpes-Maritimes department is contributing one million euros, while the South Region is participating in the financing with 500,000 euros.
Built in the 1980s, the Bayle school complex holds an important place in the life of families in Auribeau-sur-Siagne. Located in an area exposed to flood risk, the establishment is undergoing several renovation and safety operations. The work undertaken must notably take into account the risks the building has faced since the major floods of 1994 and those of 2015.
The municipality has already completed a first phase of work dedicated to the preschool, completed in 2021. The new stage concerns the school canteen, with a demolition, reconstruction, extension and elevation operation. The project also includes roof replacement, kitchen renovation and installation of a lifting device.
Present at the laying of the first stone, the president of the Alpes-Maritimes department, Charles Ange Ginésy, recalled the objective of this operation: « Protecting our children and standing alongside our municipalities: this is our commitment, everywhere in the Alpes-Maritimes. »
The department is supporting the municipality with one million euros. The work is part of a larger program to transform the school complex, which also includes the renovation of classrooms and administrative spaces, the improvement of sanitary facilities, outdoor spaces and sports equipment, as well as interventions on lighting, insulation and waterproofing.
South Region mobilizes 500,000 euros for the school canteen
The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region is also contributing to the financing of the project with 500,000 euros, as part of the “Our Territories First” contract for the Pays de Grasse. The total cost of the operation dedicated to the school canteen reaches 2.6 million euros.
Christian Estrosi, delegated president of the South Region, emphasized the regional authority’s financial commitment to the territory: « Since 2016, we have invested €35.4 million in the Pays de Grasse. Through our “Our Territories First” contract, we support municipalities in their structuring projects and we are today supporting the rehabilitation and elevation of the Bayle school canteen in Auribeau-sur-Siagne with €500,000. This project will strengthen student safety while improving their reception conditions and daily well-being. »
Beyond securing the building, the project provides for the creation of a more spacious dining hall. The goal is to improve student reception and limit rotations during meals. The kitchen will also benefit from improvements designed to make it more modern and functional.
The renovation should also improve the energy performance of the building. The installation of solar panels for hot water production and the use of high-performance insulating materials are among the planned improvements.
At the scale of the Pays de Grasse, the “Our Territories First” contract, voted in June 2023, represents an envelope of over 18.6 million euros for 25 operations. Since 2016, 35.4 million euros have been mobilized by the Region for the territory, of which 22.3 million euros have already been voted in subsidies. The “Our Municipalities First” scheme has, for its part, made it possible to support 718 municipal projects, for a total of 49.5 million euros in aid distributed among the 23 municipalities of the Pays de Grasse.
The rehabilitation of the Bayle school canteen is thus part of an approach aimed at adapting public facilities to natural risks, while improving the reception conditions for children in Auribeau-sur-Siagne.
