The dimension of the undecided vote

Latest News

On the eve of the first round of the presidential election, more than a quarter of voters do not know which ballot they will cast in the box.

With four contenders for the second round separated by less than five points in voting intentions, these undecided voters could indeed swing the election. According to a study by Elabe published last Monday, 27% of voters are precisely in this situation.

This figure has dropped by three points in a week. Logically, the closer we get to the election, the more decisions are refined, but it still remains quite high.

However, it is not enough to upset the campaign hierarchy. A candidate is not going to gain 10 points at once thanks to the undecided voters. But with four candidates neck and neck, it can be decisive.

One might think that this quartet of candidates allows voters to more easily choose the one who suits them best, but that is not the case.

A campaign without substantive debate: There is no debate over right or left, more or less government, more or less immigration, etc.

The objective for the candidates in this final stretch is to capture or retain the vote of these undecided voters.
