The eastern neighborhoods have found their May Queen: Marine Chiaramonti had the honor of winning the crown.

A jury composed of Jean-Luc Gag, delegate to the City of Nice, Alain Cauvin, representative of Nissart Per Tougiou, Gรฉrard Albarelli, writer for “Lou Sourgentin,” Robert-Marie Mercier, president of the association โ€œRacines du pays niรงois,โ€ and Mathilde Rosso, the current May Queen, had to choose among the candidates the one who could best honor the culture of Nice. They chose from candidates who offered a fresh and sincere performance, each having to introduce themselves by highlighting their connection to the culture of Nice, and perform a piece of their choice that would showcase one of their talents in the service of this culture.

Jessica opted for the historical card, recounting “Nice in the Belle ร‰poque,” Clara played the violin to the famous Niรงoise tune “Calant de Villafranca,” Jennifer combined a woman-show with cooking to present her Swiss chard pie, Louisa chose to tenderly dance a waltz to the anthem of Nice “Nissa la bella,” and Elisa sang “Tโ€™empouorterai” by the modern band “La Manada,” taking the audience on a gentle journey with a Niรงoise sound.

But it was ultimately Marine, with her colorful personality, who won the crown thanks to her beautiful theatrical interpretation of “Titoun e Vitourina,” a sketch by the famous Francis Gag. From now on, she can be called “REGINA DOU LEVANT,” Queen of the East.

This election is part of a series of four events organized by the association Nissart Per Tougiou, which includes the election of three district Queens during the neighborhood May Festivals, and the final election of the Queen of May of Nice, chosen among the three winners, on Sunday, May 24th at the Cimiez Arena Gardens.

The lucky winner will then become the ambassador of Niรงoise culture and will be called on to represent it throughout the year.
