Exchanges, concerts, workshops, master classes, competitionsโ€ฆ have continuously followed one another since then, including the “Flute Festival,” whose first edition took place in Antibes that same year.

On January 15, 16, and 17, 2010, “Through the Flute” will organize the “3rd International Flute Convention of Nice” at the National Regional Conservatory of Nice.

For three days, concerts, master classes, workshops (jazz, Brazilian music, ancient music, contemporary music, instrument making), conferences, exhibitions (instrument makers, painters), and the 2nd National Flute and Piano Competition will succeed one another. Flutists from around the world will perform, as well as the Flute Ensemble of the University of Agder from Norway, the Flute Orchestra of the Rhรดne, the sextet of transverse flutes from Lyon, the “Les Flรปtes d’Azur” Orchestra, and the NovAvoN Flute Quartet from Istanbulโ€ฆ and the flutists* who will participate in the Gala Concert.

A special tribute will be paid to Jean-Pierre Rampal, a French flutist, “considered worldwide as the greatest flutist of the modern era and as one of the most important musical figures of the 20th century,” whose 10th anniversary of passing will be celebrated in 2010.

The Regional Orchestra of Cannes Provence Alpes Cรดte d’Azur, under the exceptional direction of Ransom Wilson (Soloist at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Professor at Yale School of Music in the United States), Benoรฎt Fromanger (Concert flutist, conductor, professor at the Berlin Hochschule, Music Director of the Dalian Philharmonic Orchestra), and Naci Ozguรง (Conductor of the Istanbul National Symphony Orchestra), will accompany the flutists* Jocelyn Aubrun, Jean-Louis Beaumadier, Philippe Bender, Josรฉ-Daniel Castellon, Basak Ersรถz, Jean Ferrandis, Juliette Hurel, Maxence Larrieu, Claude Lefebvre, Magdalena Martinez, Giuseppe Nova, Felix Renggli, Sarah Rumer, Halit Turgay, Celso Woltzenlogel, Elif Yurdakul.

Program: Vivaldi, Cimarosa, Doppler, Viotti, Haydnโ€ฆ

This international event, over three days, will be a true “hymn” to the flute, bringing together the largest number of enthusiasts of this beautiful instrument.

The French composer Andrรฉ Jolivet wrote: “The flute is, par excellence, the instrument of Music, because animated by the breath, a profound emanation of man, the flute imbues its sounds with what is visceral and cosmic within us.”
