Since the start of the season on Canal+, about twenty young extraterrestrials of all colors – black, white, yellow – have been breaking the mold of comedy with their sharp wit, turning the most burning events of our society into jests. Their names are Fabrice Eboué, Patson, Thomas Ngijol, Noom, Amelle, Claudia, Frédéric Chau, the Comte de Bouderbala (sic), Dedo, Yacine, Ben… They form the Jamel Comedy Club.
Each show features four artists, each performing a five-minute segment. Encouraged by the frenzied hosting deftly led by their mentor, these rising phenomena of slam and stand-up comedy take turns on stage. It’s Jamel’s job to warm up the audience and introduce these budding talents. The concept is simple: “One man, one mic.”
But it’s on stage where they must be seen, in “full contact” with the audience, for their show truly comes into its own. Experts call this “stand-up.” Instead of a succession of sketches, a life narrated in slices, thoughts on current affairs, constantly interrupted to call out to the audience: the latecomer, the girl who laughs too loud, the man who yawns, the guy who won’t remove his cap—even the one doing nothing. There’s no use in shrinking into your seat: these comedians will find you. Don’t panic: it’s always funny and without malice.
The Jamel Comedy Club respects nothing, no taboo… mocks Whites, Blacks, Arabs, Chinese, homosexuals, heterosexuals, politicians, hipsters, and suburbanites – and by doing so ridicules all intolerances.
They all arrive at the Acropolis in Nice on March 15 for a show that promises to be hilarious…
