This year again, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of its musical director György G. Rath, invites you to ring in the New Year with music by offering a free concert this Wednesday, January 1st, at 11 am at the Palais Acropolis, Apollon Hall.
The program is immersed in the atmosphere of New York and begins with a suite titled Carmen in Harlem, a jazzy version of Bizet’s score arranged by Jacques Butaye, who is himself a violinist with the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra.
Then, Leonard Bernstein takes the baton with the symphonic dances from his famous West Side Story.
As for the final word, it belongs to George Gershwin with his Rhapsody in Blue, appropriately marking the year 2020.
