The Normandie-Niemen Square is soon to be transformed.

In the context of an environmental conservation policy, one of the parks in the east of the city is set to undergo a major transformation.

In recent months, the policy of the city of Nice, implemented by its mayor, Christian Estrosi, has begun to take on some green tones. Indeed, for some time now, the municipality has been conducting more frequent land development actions, claiming “a comprehensive policy for adapting its territory in response to climate change.” Several infrastructures are sometimes renovated or modified to better address these issues.

This is particularly the case for the Normandie Niemen Garden in Nice, located in the Saint-Roch district. As part of this same comprehensive territory adaptation policy and the one aimed at improving and preserving Nice’s green spaces, the garden will undergo a soil de-impermeabilization and the creation of a green network.

These works involve replacing 1,220 square meters of the garden’s surface to make a larger area permeable. This operation will cost the municipality approximately €45,000. At the same time, new benches and tables will be installed to accommodate the high foot traffic. Regular visitors to the park will now also have the pleasure of engaging in sports here, as a pilou field (a game emblematic of Nice’s identity) and two ping-pong tables will also be installed.

However, carrying out these works requires a total closure of the garden. Therefore, until the end of January, residents of Nice will not have access to it.
