The youth of Nice had a rendezvous this Friday evening to celebrate the end of the second Hip Hop fortnight in style. The Théâtre de Verdure was the highlight of all the workshops and events that the city had set up during these two weeks of Easter holidays. But everyone was mostly looking forward to Saïan Supa Crew.
The festivities kicked off at 7 PM with demonstrations of what the young people of Nice had learned during this hip-hop fortnight. Graffiti exhibition, DJing demonstrations, and breakdance battles. Some groups of children were impressive. The choreographies were timed to the second. The audience was already in frenzy. Then it was the turn of the local rap artists. Phaze Terminale, Kaïser, Furax, Don Fenom, Jacim, Kamikaze and a special mention to 6ème Carat, Giovann, and Papa London.

Finally, the much-anticipated moment arrived; the second part with Saïan Supa Crew. The lights went out. The band’s DJ appeared with crossed arms, looking solemn. And then, one by one, the members of the group arrived, their faces hidden under their t-shirts. The show could begin. Feniksi, Vicelow, Leeroy Kesiah, Sly The Mic Buddah, and Sir Samuel were about to deliver a 200,000-volt performance to their ecstatic audience. The five were unleashed and did not stop for more than an hour and a half.
For those unfamiliar, Saïan Supa Crew is an extraordinary Hip Hop group. Since their first album “KLR” in 1999, they have been delivering hits. You must surely know “Angela”, “la preuve par trois”, “X-raisons”, or “à demi-nue”. The group addresses a variety of topics ranging from issues of racism and hypocrisy to romantic affairs. The lyrics are intelligent and sharp, all presented with a hint of humor. But Saïan is especially renowned for their energy on stage.
