The Itchy Ear: an original show name that arouses curiosity. Where does this strange name come from? While sitting on the terrace of a bar in Vence, two childhood friends, Simon Pégurier and Benoît Benasco, created a show concept in 1995, which they decided to call The Itchy Ear.
For 15 years, Simon Pégurier has been at the helm of the show. Its principle? Once a week, on Tuesdays between 7 and 9 PM, a music band is invited to the Agora FM studio in Grasse. The band performs four songs interspersed with an interview, if the artists wish. The show is broadcast live on air. Videos are also streamed on websites, which allows the show to gain significant fame. The media helps discover new talents: during the summer season, bands wishing to participate in the show present their creations to a jury that includes Simon Pégurier. He selects, based on his preferences, the different bands that will participate in the show.
The show aims to present local and independent rock music. What makes these musical styles unique? As the name suggests, local rock is performed by local artists from the PACA region. Independent rock consists of artists who have not approached major record labels. The success of The Itchy Ear gave rise to the quarterly show, A Night That Itches. The team takes over the airwaves for 24 hours non-stop: from 10 PM on Saturday until the next day. The next nocturnal show: on the night of February 13 to 14.
Last Saturday, the radio show was an immense success. All the ingredients were there.
