The 24 communes of the CANCA declared on Wednesday in favor of changing the Agglomeration Community to an Urban Community. Thus joining the fourteen intercommunalities of the largest cities in France. The principle of this transformation is simple: to obtain more resources. Indeed, the benefits from state aid prove to be more significant when it is an Urban Community. An Agglomeration Community receives these aids at a rate of 44.50 euros per inhabitant, whereas for an Urban Community it reaches almost double at 85.80 euros. *”The creation of our urban community thus marks a new step, a qualitative leap that will benefit our communes and our citizens. It will allow us to position ourselves on an equal footing with the capitals of the Mediterranean basin,”* declared Christian Estrosi.
Rudy Salles, Deputy of Alpes-Maritimes and Regional Councilor, applauds this success because *”the future of our communes is at stake. We all depend on each other, especially since developments are increasingly complex to carry out.”*
Not particularly fond of the term “urban,” Christian Estrosi chose another name, opting to call it “Nice Cรดte d’Azur” rather than an Urban Community. *”It will be a true community of destiny for harmonious and balanced development of the territory. It is essential to establish a perfect symbiosis between Nice Cรดte d’Azur and our communes,”* he said.
### Solidarity between the communes
While waiting to transform the Agglomeration Community into an Urban Community, it was decided to transfer new competencies to the Agglomeration Community. Notably in the areas of urban policy, environmental protection and enhancement, and the quality of life policy.
The President informed that provisional management mandate agreements have already been signed with the communes, which will also allow for the transfer of personnel. 1,450 agents in the fields of road maintenance and cleanliness are concerned.
The establishment of a local commission was also submitted for a vote. It will be responsible for evaluating local policies. It will consist of the mayors (as of right members) of the 24 communes, a representative from the opposition group sitting on the Community Council, and the President of the Development Council.
*”I propose that we build an innovative, solidary Nice Cรดte d’Azur, open to this Mediterranean which for centuries has left its mark on our history,”* supported Christian Estrosi.
