Despite a brief meeting, François Fillon and Jean-François Copé failed to find common ground, and solutions are certainly not abundant, especially with the creation of a new parliamentary group composed of Fillon supporters: Rassemblement UMP. But how far will they go?
Even though Nicolas Sarkozy has come out of his semi-retirement, it might have been better if he had lost his temper; nothing has changed one bit between the probable winner and the possible loser. The issue is clear: François Fillon wants a new election while Jean-François Copé insists on “the operational rules that exist within an organization,” thereby refusing a new vote.
Alain Juppé, Nicolas Sarkozy… Finding a new firefighter to extinguish the blaze at the UMP house is difficult, and the creation of a new parliamentary group will certainly not help the situation.
The latest proposal from the Copé camp is a referendum on the possibility of a new vote in January. Fillon’s team response: “We agree to organize a referendum on the new vote but on the condition that this referendum vote is supervised by an independent body.”
To be continued…
