This Thursday, the Mediterranean University Center hosted the volunteer medals ceremony. A warm event, marked by gratitude.
65, that’s the number of medals awarded, which were divided into three categories. 28 volunteers received the silver medal (for between three and twenty years of volunteering), 22 received the gold medal (for 20 to 30 years), and 15 received the Golden Zenith medal (for 31 years and above).
And, people from all over the Metropolis and from all associations were rewarded. From Carros to Eze, passing through Castagniers, Isola, or Nice, volunteers involved in pétanque clubs, the Red Cross, or football clubs were recognized.
A fair return for those who give their time with the aim of helping others. Christian Estrosi also wanted to thank all the volunteers with this statement: “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being who you are.” For, this evening was truly about the recognition of volunteers, and the idea was to encourage them.
The deputy mayor of the city of Nice and president of the metropolis knows well that what they give is priceless and he cited examples such as the Francophonie Games or the Nice-Cannes marathon. Events that would not be what they are without the valuable help of these volunteers. It is a service to others with no financial return.
Volunteering is a precious commitment, and France counts nearly 32% of its total population, while the European average is only 23%. The evening went perfectly in front of a full house, with some volunteers bringing along their “fan club.” The ceremony concluded with a group photo with all the medal recipients.
