Philippe Bouvard passed away on Monday, August 24 at the age of 96. The announcement of his death was made by Colette Sauvage, his wife, on RTL. Settled in Cannes for several years, the journalist had chosen to live away from the hustle and bustle of Paris.

Several personalities from the media world are expected to pay tribute to Philippe Bouvard. Laurent Ruquier notably paid respects to the man who had preceded him as presenter of Grosses Têtes. Bernard Mabille, a close collaborator and long-time friend, should also attend the funeral.

« What a sad awakening… », confided Bernard Mabille in Grosses Têtes on August 24. « Philippe was part of my life for 30 years, he was a difficult character to understand. I never knew if I was friends with him or not! But it was a dream to work with him. »

Philippe Bouvard had chosen Cannes for his final years

For several years, Cannes had become Philippe Bouvard’s place of residence. In an interview given to Parisien in 2022, the journalist explained this choice: « I retired to Cannes, my promised land. »

Despite his gradual withdrawal from media life, Philippe Bouvard maintained his habits. « I listen to the radio every hour and I read almost all the press. It’s my drug », the journalist said at the time. A life in Cannes also marked by restaurant outings and a taste for the pleasures of the table. Last January, Cyril Viguier still testified to these habits after visiting him.

Philippe Bouvard’s relationship with the French Riviera was not limited to his residence in Cannes. The journalist also maintained several links with Nice. In 2013, a presence notably marked the « Senior Theater Festival », with the presentation of his play « Passtout » from Philippe Bouvard’s Theater.

In the 2010s, Philippe Bouvard also participated in several editions of the Nice Book Festival. The discussions notably focused on technological developments in the journalism profession. The journalist also agreed to become patron of the Nice School of Journalism (EDJ), with the aim of contributing to fostering vocations in the profession.

Philippe Bouvard is survived by his wife Colette Sauvage, his two daughters Dominique and Nathalie, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will allow the family, loved ones and several figures from the media world to gather in Cannes for a final tribute.
