Will the new government authorize the security plan for the schools in Nice?

It is a particularly spirited Christian Estrosi, no longer the mayor of Nice but still at the helm of his city, who presented the security plan for the 164 schools managed by the municipality.

In fact, the goal, in addition to the existing network of surveillance cameras, is to “place an armed officer in each school, with an office to monitor entrances and exits, check off lists, and observe any movements that might seem suspicious.”

To this end, the municipality has hired 110 additional officers who will be assigned to this service.

For now, the city hall is limited to the only authorized option, which is to have patrols around the 164 schools in the city. It has been funding a security guard service for each school since the start of the school year.

This plan is contingent since it lacks authorization from the Minister of National Education.

“We can only hope that a new government, more attentive to the security of our schoolchildren, will allow us to implement it in the next school year 2017,” he stated in his usual critical tone towards the Minister in charge, one of his favorite targets.

The FCPE (Federation of Parents’ Councils) criticizes the plan’s “security overkill,” calling it “useless and ineffective.”
