Nice native Diane Parry was defeated by Spanish player Cristina Bucsa (7-5/6-1), on Tuesday, October 27, as soon as she entered the WTA 500 in Tokyo. The French player is on a sixth consecutive loss and has not won a match since the first round of the US Open on August 31.

The bad streak continues for Diane Parry. Competing in the WTA 500 in Tokyo, the Nice-born player left the tournament in the first round on Tuesday, after a two-set defeat to Cristina Bucsa (42nd in the world, 28 years old). The Nice native, ranked 34th in the WTA rankings, lost in 1 hour 25 minutes with a score of (7-5/6-1).

Since her victory in the first round of the US Open on August 31, Diane Parry has not won another match. Early eliminations in Guadalajara, Beijing, Wuhan, Ningbo and now Tokyo extend a difficult streak for the French player. The loss to Cristina Bucsa thus marks her sixth consecutive defeat, without having won a single set during this period.

The first set was nonetheless competitive. After saving two break points from the opening game, Diane Parry attempted to resist her opponent’s attacks. The two players exchanged breaks before the Spanish player took the advantage at 6-5, then concluded the set on her second set point.

The second set was much more difficult for the French player. Broken at the start of the set, Diane Parry was unable to reverse the trend and conceded the last six games of the match. Her lack of consistency on serve and numerous unforced errors weighed on the result. The Nice player notably landed only 54% of her first serves, compared to 74% for Cristina Bucsa.

This new elimination marks the most difficult period for Diane Parry since summer 2023, when she had a streak of seven consecutive losses. Despite this negative run, the French player currently retains her status as number 1 French player in the WTA rankings.

Diane Parry maintains her position as France’s number 1

Despite her recent results, Diane Parry paradoxically remains at her best career ranking thanks in particular to her title won in Monterrey, Mexico, last August. The French player thus maintains a reference position in French women’s tennis, while several fellow countrymen are also competing in the top 100.

Fiona Ferro climbs one spot and now occupies the 99th place in the world. The player from Valbonne is competing this week in the Challenger tournament in Querétaro, Mexico, where she must face British player Sofia Johnson in the first round.

For Diane Parry, the challenge will now be to regain confidence and put an end to this streak of losses at her upcoming tournaments on the circuit. After several premature exits, the player from the Côte d’Azur will need to find her bearings to reignite her sporting momentum.
