Sexology in Five Questions

Sex and money. Money and sex. Modern society revolves around these two words. How to be happy in love and rich? This is the goal of every human being. For money worries, we go to our banker. For our sexual problems, we should go to a sexologist. But not just any. This is what Grégoire Rotticci explains to us.

Vincent Trinquat: First of all, Grégoire Rotticci, can you explain exactly what a sexologist is? How does one become a sexologist? Can we trust all sexologists?

Grégoire Rotticci: A sexologist is a professional whose function and training allow
to provide information in the field of sexuality and couple intimacy.
The sexologist is not limited to informing; they are also trained to address
the suffering resulting from difficulties or dysfunctions in
the field of sexuality and to treat it through medical and non-
medical means (sex therapy). Currently, the title of sexologist is not protected
by law, and any unscrupulous person can self-proclaim
as a sexologist or sex therapist and operate with impunity. That is why
I urge people to be cautious and vigilant, and if they feel the need
to consult a professional in sexuality, it would be best to inquire
from the national union of sexologist doctors or the national union of
sexologists and sex therapists to obtain a list of certified professionals. Until recently, various sexologist training programs were private; currently, a University Diploma in Sexology has been taught
recently at the university.

VT: Have you noticed an increase in visits to your clinic? Without betraying medical secrets, can you tell us who comes to your clinic and why?

GR: I have been practicing as a sexologist for many years and I have not
noticed an increase in attendance at my clinic, as if, despite appearances, sexuality is still a taboo. The people who consult
can be young or old, alone or accompanied, in severe difficulty or
simply a bit anxious. Disorders of desire, pleasure, and erectile or ejaculatory function are the most common sexual difficulties.

VT: Libertine practices seem to be progressing. Libertine clubs are increasingly successful. What is your expert opinion on these practices and how do you explain their clear progression?

GR: Indeed, libertine practices and libertine clubs are progressing and this can be explained by the increasingly
widespread distribution of pornographic films especially on private
television channels and partly due to a growing existential void
in our uprooted society generating a phenomenon of compensation and
consumption of all kinds. In forty years, the model of sexuality has
greatly evolved, and the Western society has moved from the prohibition of enjoying to the
obligation to enjoy more and more. This new model is
obviously as anxiety-inducing as the old model, even if it is not immediately apparent.

VT: In the same vein, sex shops are welcoming more people and increasingly women. Is this simply a sign of women’s liberation or do women seek in sex shops and the purchase of sex toys what they no longer find in men?

GR: As I said earlier! Our Western society has integrated a new relational and sexual model where the woman is the main
beneficiary. Allow me to explain: the sixties and seventies brought a
dynamics and a movement of liberation for women at several levels
especially on the sexual level while men, in general, did not
liberate themselves, on the contrary, they were somewhat destabilized by this wind of
freedom that blew over femininity. I do not believe that all women
are looking in sex toys for what they no longer find in men;
these “sexual tools” serve mostly in solitary masturbation
and in other cases, it’s a little extra for enjoying even more!

VT: Finally, a word about the Erotica Salon. What does it represent for you? More of an adult entertainment or a reflection of the sexual problems of society?

GR: The erotica salon, which I believe had 30,000 entries, is clear evidence that
sex and eroticism are attracting more and more people and that sex continues
to lead the world as the saying goes! Between entertainment and curiosity, the
erotica salon primarily fits into a dynamic where sexuality rhymes with
freedom. This new “sex attitude” is the result of the erosion and
progressive collapse of the Judeo-Christian super-ego that are gradually leading
to the emergence of human and feminine grace and freedom.
