Tonight, Mono “rocks” in Monaco

The singer-songwriter with the pop rock flair will defend his first album, “INTACT.”

It’s a chance to discover or rediscover this artist who has been a sensation on our small screensโ€”imagine her on stage! Tip: Think about the fire extinguishers!

But while waiting for the flames to dance to the “monoien” beat, Pascal Mono has opened up to Flora, our budding journalist.

Nice-Premiรจre: On August 21st, you will perform your album in its entirety for the first time on the French Riviera, your homeland, your childhood, where you have already performed on many stages in the past. How does that feel?

Pascal Mono: It’s funny because just a year ago, I was playing quite a few covers at Cafรฉ Grand Prix (formerly Rascasse) and today itโ€™s just two hundred meters further, on the harbor with my album… It’s a true return to the roots… Playing in front of those who saw me start has a special meaning for this concert…

N-P: Your official tour starts this winter. Since youโ€™re forming a band, will you miss the solo singer-musician connection?

P.M.: I got used to this setup… It’s always interesting to do things you haven’t done before… Of course, I’m looking forward to being on stage with my new band but for now, the โ€œPBOโ€ will do as it sounds exactly like the album since it’s the original master minus vocals and some guitars that I’ll play live.

N-P: Your debut album includes a hidden track, a cover of Led Zeppelin. Will you perform it that evening?

P.M.: Of course, itโ€™s a huge piece. Iโ€™ll play it 100% acoustic.

N-P: You are a singer-songwriter-composer. In which of these three areas do you feel most comfortable?

P.M.: Itโ€™s true that it might be a lot for one man, but for me, a song is a complete package, either it comes together or it doesnโ€™t… In a song, lyrics and music are always about synergy… I feel more like a lyricist and performer than a composer, probably because I was originally trained in classical music and jazz before learning pop, blues, and rock as a complete self-taught artist. I learned to “compose” songs by playing along to Dylan and Beatles records at first!

N-P: Your first album, where you ponder our society with wordplay and existential questions, where you also talk about love, seems to be very personal. Isn’t it hard to share so much of yourself with the audience?

P.M.: Whatโ€™s hard is sharing nothing but trivialities or considerations about the weather; I’ve never been able to do that.

N-P: How do your close ones feel about your success?

P.M.: With pride and joy, of course, but success is not an end in itself. They are proud of the content of “Intact”.
