The blue tornado of the presidential elections followed by a strong wave during the legislative elections has shaken the local socialist body, which, like its Parisian senior, is grappling with the implementation of internal politics necessary to hope to lead in the first stage of the primary. Patrick Mottard, the unsuccessful candidate in the last 2001 election, and Patrick Allemand, Vice President of the PACA Regional Council, are therefore neck and neck, a situation where they will rarely unite for a drink considering the current times.
It’s not exactly war between the two heavyweights of Nice socialism, but currents are gradually forming and one must choose a side (comrade) before the end of 2007, which will eventually put a name to this first name fueling the conversations of Azurean activists.
“Of course, they are the two favorites for the municipal nomination, but the Nice Socialist Party has other elected officials who would look great and especially have all the skills to be the Mayor of Nice.” This activist from the first district will not give a name, or rather a first name of her favorite, but it is true that some Nice elected officials might aim to be at the very top of a list, hoping for a prominent future on a municipal poster… Marc, Paul, Yann… No one knows if the official Nice candidate will bear one of these names?
Paul is a loyal and hardworking city councilor. Marc, a general councilor, is an eminent lawyer while Yann, a young city councilor, could use this opportunity to sharpen his skills for future electoral jousts. Certainly, in Nice, one Patrick hides another, but the essence in an election isn’t it to give oneself every chance to win. “I am a socialist and have been a member of the PS for years and I dare say that none of the two candidates satisfies me. We even heard about the parachuting of Dominique Strauss Kahn. I think we should choose the one who has all the chances to stop a Jacques Peyrat or worse… a Christian Estrosi.”
The blue wave has therefore been the most impressive in the Alpes-Maritimes department and in Nice. Patrick Allemand skillfully played his cards right in the UMP game by being the only candidate to make the local right wobble, specifically Eric Ciotti, the right-hand man of Christian Estrosi. Patrick Mottard decided not to present himself in the legislative election, preferring to focus on the municipal objective, leaving his seat to his wife Dominique Boy Mottard who had to bow out to Deputy Muriel Marland Militello, reelected in the first round. The teams of each are therefore working hard on the ground to rally the members who, like everywhere in France, have increased following the royal phenomenon and are therefore more difficult to manage. Because the royalmania will be a new factor to handle for the candidates to the municipal candidacy, with on paper an advantage to Patrick Allemand who joined the Royal camp before the presidential primaries.
The starting gun was fired at the end of the second round of the legislative elections, and the candidates, confirmed to this day to be two, have sprung from their starting blocks for a race of a few months that tomorrow will already be just weeks…
