The term manga, which means “comic” in Japanese, follows codes linked to Japanese culture. But when genres are mixed, manga takes on a whole different direction. The exhibition that Cephir and Elfye are offering from September 15 to October 5, 2009, at the BD Fugue bookstore in Nice, is inspired by several artistic movements. “I would say my works are influenced by the manga style, American and European comics,” confides Cephir, one of the artists. “I draw inspiration from aesthetics, gothic, rock and roll, and metal,” he adds. The manga culture is largely represented through nudes. From a young age, Cephir has cultivated a passion for drawing. After obtaining his baccalaureate, he enrolled in an art school in Nice where he learned the technique of nudes. “There, I really started to evolve in the representation of models,” he recalls. His recognized talent allowed him to publish some of his drawings in amateur magazines. He then embarked on exhibiting and started with BD Fugue, with which he shares a long history. After participating in and winning various competitions organized by the bookstore, Cephir decided to propose to the store to exhibit his works alongside his friend Elfye. Both occupy the walls of the BD Fugue bookstore from September 15 to October 5, 2009.
