For several weeks, a petition has been circulating in Nice to demand designated spaces for man’s best friend. WebTvNice investigated to find out if dogs are truly responsible for the unsanitary conditions in the city of Nice.
Every day, nearly 10 tons of canine waste is collected in Nice, for an estimated population of over 30,000 dogs. From today, July 1, 2008, the fake fines issued in recent weeks by law enforcement and magistrates become reality, with amounts ranging from €11 to €150, depending on the severity of the offense or possible repeat offenses.
Until now, no mayor has succeeded in teaching dog owners to use the gutter for their dogs, and the solution might just be found in people’s wallets to hope for some level of civic sense, or even definite civic responsibility from humans who have chosen to live in the city with a canine companion. The only two solutions remain to either not get caught or to be equipped during outings.
