With participation below the 40% mark in the Nice cantons, the first round of the departmental elections did not generate the expected turnout in the Nice neighborhoods.
No miracle, therefore, for an election that everyone hid as best as possible either for fear of a protest vote or fear of a not sufficiently glorious result. On the lookout in recent weeks, the National Front seems to be carving out a good portion in an election in which it could even be one of the main beneficiaries.
There are no precise results in Nice yet apart from the first estimates which would place Bernard Asso (UMP) in front ahead of Jean-Philippe Lefรจvre (FN) and a striking second round in the 14th canton with a face-off between Dominique Estrosi Sassone and Paul Cuturello. It is only 9 PM and the results are far from being final.
However, the first national and local estimates seem to indicate a rise of the National Front and this is confirmed in Nice with William Paris in a good position in the 11th canton ahead of the UMP candidate Daniel Benchimol, while the first deputy Benoรฎt Kandel would have to battle in the 12th canton in the second round against Michel Cotta who is currently slightly ahead of the socialist candidate, Frรฉdรฉrique Grรฉgoire Concas.
BREAKING NEWS
According to the latest estimates, all the Nice cantons would see a UMP/FN confrontation except in the 14th where it would be a face-off between the PS and the UMP.
