The 14 million tennis balls consumed and discarded each year in France have found new life thanks to this initiative: they are collected, recycled, and turned into sports fields created for the benefit of a local association!
This FFT initiative began in 2008 and now involves 36 tennis leagues in France. This year, 800,000 balls have been collected thanks to the involvement of clubs and leagues (the volumetric equivalent of an Olympic swimming pool!)
Eleven projects are underway. For the majority, these are play areas of about a hundred square meters intended for educational establishments, living homes for children or adults with disabilities, etc.
An environmental, educational, and supportive operation for a more responsible and greener tennis!
To collect the balls, a Coved truck organizes a tour of France among the leagues participating in the Yellow Ball Operation to retrieve collections of balls and take them for shredding, the first step in the recycling process.
