Cap 21 Statement for the Feast of Eid al-Adha

We are pleased to receive and publish this statement, which only engages the responsibility of its authors.

“Eid El Kabir Celebration on November 17th, 18th, and 19th, 2010 (Abraham’s sacrifice): for CAP21, spirituality and conviviality should be expressed in joy and carefreeness.

Our democratic society, imbued with Human Rights, must permanently accept the normal expression, and in mutual respect, of different religions (or non-belief). The freedom of expression, including religious freedom, is a cornerstone of our Republic.

Everything must be done so that Muslim citizens of our department, like other believers, can perform their rites and ensure these moments of festivity with dignity.

As this major family and fraternal moment approaches, we therefore ask that all citizens be treated without distinction of religion. We call on decision-makers to take measures that make it permanently impossible for what happened last year (excessive surveillance, incidents…) to happen again, especially due to the lack of infrastructure for sheep slaughtering. This is to ensure a normal celebration in accordance with the rites, sanitary rules, and warmth that characterize any festival.”
