“A Polka in Nice: The Polish Presence on the French Riviera” by Jean-Pierre Fouchy. Jean-Pierre Fouchy will present and sign his book “A Polka in Nice: The Polish Presence on the French Riviera.” This event provides an opportunity for him to trace the journey of some influential members of the Polish community in our region. There will be mention of the presence of Witold Gombrowicz, Delfina Potocka, Stanislaw Kostka Potocki… and others who also marked their time.
Jean-Pierre Fouchy will also discuss the Olivetto grounds, which, before the construction of the Marc Chagall National Museum, belonged to Count Zygmunt Krasiński and his wife, Countess Elisa Branicka. Lovers of music and literature, they were significant cultural figures in the region, notably through Countess Delfina Potocka’s invitations to Richard Wagner and Frédéric Chopin.
A Polka in Nice, 176 pages illustrated with numerous photos taken in France and Poland by the Niçois author Jean-Pierre Fouchy. Éditions Incognito, Nice 2011. Free entry subject to available seating.
