In the Esclapez family, people knew the father, Patrick, the master of the magical place called Librairie Jean Jaurès located in Old Nice. But it’s his daughter, Sophie, who has turned the page and recently settled in Nice with a concept straight from the streets and boulevards of America. So Sophie, tell us a bit about your truck?
Nice Premium: Sophie, a truck… so, why “Le Camion de Sophie”?
Sophie Esclapez: “Le Camion de Sophie” because, for me, it was important that people come to my truck as if they were coming to my home. It was a natural way for me to get closer to the clientele.
NP: How did this idea of a mobile catering service come about?
SE: During a trip to New York, I really enjoyed discovering a different “food truck” on every corner. I returned to France, setting the idea aside, then realized in my everyday working life that no fast food allowed for quality on-the-go eating.
NP: Where can we find you in Nice?
SE: You can find me on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at noon on Route de St Pierre de Féric near the Bo Lavage station, and also on Thursdays at noon and in the evening at 3 Place Franklin. I’m hoping the city council will give me locations allowing me to cover the entire city.
NP: And what about the dishes, what do we find in your truck, Sophie?
SE: As for dishes, we offer quality homemade hamburgers with fresh meat and ingredients, and baker’s bread, accompanied by coleslaw or homemade fries, and, of course, a few homemade desserts like the classic cheesecake, Oreo cheesecake, or brownies.
NP: Any other projects for Sophie and her truck?
SE: In my mind, I have lots of other projects for Nice, but let’s let this one come to fruition first and the rest will follow.
NP: So, the summer will be hot?
SE: I hope the summer will be very, very hot, oh yes indeed! We were getting a bit tired of the gray sky and rain.
NP: And finally, Sophie will be happy if…?
SE: Sophie will be happy if the customers are happy and enjoy coming to eat!
