Preserving the landscape and environment, reintroducing nature into the city, and enhancing public spaces are part of the main objectives to give Nice a unique character. This is how an exceptional 12-hectare urban park will come to life in the heart of the city, above the Paillon, stretching from the Jardin Albert 1er to the Thรฉรขtre National de Nice.
The bus station and parking lot, those two blemishes on our urban landscape, will make way as of September 2013 for a magnificent green promenade, offered to pedestrians.
The project, designed by the renowned architecture and landscape agency Pรฉna & Pena, thus allows for the facades of the baroque buildings in the old town to be revealed and to recreate a connection with the new city.
-The Coulรฉe Verte is a comprehensive project focused on the development of an urban park between the Thรฉรขtre National de Nice and the sea, on the sites of the hanging gardens housing the current bus station and parking lot (which will be demolished and relocated), Leclerc square, Massรฉna space, and Albert I garden.
The development project concerns an area of 12 hectares that includes: the site of the former bus station, the site of the former parking lot, Leclerc square, Massรฉna space, the Jacques Mรฉdecin forum, and Albert I garden.
The project leader will globally reconsider the sites to be redeveloped in order to create a “green corridor,” that is, a continuous green urban park, from the Thรฉรขtre National de Nice to the sea.
A promenade will connect the different sites traversed in a quality landscape context. The walker should feel like they are strolling through a leafy park away from car traffic. They will be invited to cross the urban park rather than moving along the avenues, on the sidewalks.
Attention will therefore be paid to creating green spaces with suitable plant density.
-Cost and time
The total cost of the development and landscaping works for the Coulรฉe Verte amounts to โฌ40 million including tax for Nice Cรดte d’Azur, with a contribution from the Alpes-Maritimes General Council of โฌ3.5 million including tax. The work will be completed by the end of 2013.
