Two days before the opening of the Cannes Festival, the Alpes Maritimes Côte d’Azur Film Commission and its members reviewed the film shoots that took place on the Côte d’Azur in 2011 and the promotional actions aimed at developing this activity in 2012.

dsc00846.jpgWith 14 feature films, including “Clo Clo” released earlier in the year, “De Rouille et d’Os,” a film in official competition at the Cannes Festival that was shot for 80 days on the Côte d’Azur, 6 television dramas, and 56 commercials filmed, the department of Alpes-Maritimes positions itself as a true hub for film shoots.

“This activity is all the more important as it generates economic benefits not only for the audiovisual sector and its service providers but also for the entire tourism hospitality chain. A real asset in terms of tourism image as well, since 62% of tourists are influenced by a film in their choice of destination,” according to Jean Pierre LELEUX, President of the Film Commission and Senator Mayor of Grasse.
Indeed, the 1,329 shooting days in 2011 generated a total of 24,000 hotel nights and 28,500,000€ in direct economic benefits. The Côte d’Azur thus hosts feature films, television productions, and commercial shoots. The daily expenditure for these shoots ranges from 36,000 to 40,000€.

According to Bernard KLEYNHOFF, President of the CCI Nice Côte d’Azur, “It is to promote the advantages of the Alpes Maritimes and its receptiveness to productions that the Film Commission, created at the initiative of the CCI Nice Côte d’Azur, has implemented a promotional plan on major professional markets: MIP TV and Festival de La Rochelle for television, the Cannes International Film Festival for cinema. In 2012, an EducTour for American screenwriters will also inspire future scripts for American studios, thanks to European funding from the Creativ Companies in Alpine Space (CCAlps) project.”
