The 50th anniversary of the twinning between Nice and Tananarive, as well as the Malagasy National Day, will be celebrated on Monday, June 25, 2012, at 6 p.m., at the Maison de lโEnvironnement in Nice.
This event will take place in the presence of Rudy Salles, Deputy, Deputy Mayor in charge of International Relations, and Honorรฉ Randriakoto, Minister Plenipotentiary, Vice Consul of Madagascar in Marseille.
The capital of the French Riviera and Tananarive โ the economic and political capital of Madagascar โ have been twin cities since April 1962. Both cities have expressed their desire to strengthen their friendship and deepen their relations. Cooperation is contemplated in the fields of tourism, particularly through executive training in Nice, waste collection and management, and health. Madagascar could also be the guest of honor at the Nice Fair in 2013.
Fifty-two years ago, in 1960, the Malagasy Republic gained independence, continuing a cooperative policy with France.
Tananarive is a city experiencing significant growth. It is the seat of ministries and administration, main companies, and banks. It is the starting point for communications to all regions of the country and is a very active commercial center. It had fewer than 50,000 inhabitants at the beginning of the century, and today it has nearly 2 million.
