Located away from large tourist flows, the café/bar is the last or one of the last businesses in some villages. In a department where rural areas occupy 80% of the territory, ensuring the maintenance of café/bar multiservices (bread depot, grocery store, tourist information, cultural events, post point, bank point) by enhancing their economic, tourist, and social functions is necessary to preserve life and activity in the villages.
Thanks to the cross-border project “Tourval café”, tourism professionals from the high country were assisted and qualified to join the national brand “Bistrot de pays“.
This brand now unites over 250 establishments in France, and you can find about ten in the Alpes-Maritimes and around thirty in Italy.
The tourist map of the Bistrots de pays and Bistro di Paese was created with the support of FEDER ALCOTRA 2007-2013 funds to enhance and promote the Franco-Italian establishments to tourists.
