Opening of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe by Christian Estrosi, Deputy, Mayor of Nice, President of Nice Côte d’Azur and Jean-Claude Mignon, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, this Monday, September 3, 2012 at 9 AM at Villa Masséna.
Eager to make the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis a community open to the world and Europe, especially through numerous cross-border cooperations, Christian Estrosi will open the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Monday, which will meet for the first time in Nice, at Villa Masséna, as per the wish of Jean-Claude Mignon, its current President.
This closed meeting of the Bureau will be an opportunity to prepare for the next October session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which meets four times a year. The Bureau of the Assembly consists of its President, twenty Vice Presidents, the Presidents of the political groups or their substitutes, and the Presidents of the committees.
Created on May 5, 1949, the Council of Europe is the oldest European intergovernmental organization, bringing together 47 member States and representing more than 800 million Europeans. Its primary aim is to create a common democratic and legal area across the entire European continent, ensuring the respect of fundamental values: Human Rights, Democracy, and the rule of law.
The Council of Europe is composed of two bodies: the Committee of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly, as well as three institutions: the European Court of Human Rights, the Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.
