The Palais des Congrès in Antibes Juan-les-Pins hosts “Méditerranea, International Festival of Underwater Imagery and Adventure” from December 6 to 9, a showcase of the “silent world” and a crossroads of exploration. On the agenda: screenings, exhibitions, meetings.

A bit of History…

Antibes has welcomed the pioneers of scuba diving. It was at Cap d’Antibes that an 18-year-old Austrian graduate, Hans Hass, a forerunner of autonomous scuba diving alongside Cousteau, had his first snorkeling experience in 1937. It was also from Antibes’ shipyards that the iconic Calypso of Commander Cousteau emerged in the early 1950s.

Diving baptisms, exhibitions, photo workshops… over 1500 schoolchildren are involved each year in the event, and 120 diving baptisms are offered to the youngest. During the festival, enthusiasts have plenty of choices among various film, report, and often unreleased documentary screenings, prestigious exhibitions, a seminar, and other diverse offerings including underwater photo workshops;
