Red card for yellow cards!

Latest News

In light of the state of exasperation (sic!) among business leaders and their employees, UPE06, CGPME06, Medef 06, UPA, and UNAPL 06 are calling on business leaders and employees to mobilize in large numbers on December 11th, to demand «More Economy(ies), for More Jobs» and to brandish a yellow card as a warning against current economic and social policies.

cartonrouge.jpg Yvon Grosso, President of UPE06: «Our employers’ organization can be a force of proposal, and also when necessary a force of opposition. This collective action of information and awareness-raising is fundamental. It must show public authorities the reality of our economic situation, but also affirm that solutions exist to recover, regain growth, and create jobs. This is the dual objective of this mobilization!».

Before this, “bosses” organizing a demonstration and calling on employees to participate was unheard of, even on the Côte d’Azur. In truth, it’s not the kind of innovation we might expect from businesses and which is needed to move things forward… Quite the opposite, it reeks of sheer hypocrisy!

There is a paradox among these people: On one hand, they demand fewer regulations and taxes with a rather ultra-liberal stance, on the other, they request the continuation of European aid, government protection against global competition, and ultimately, a welfare state.

Is all this credible?

This demonstration, beyond the hypocrisies and contradictions of its leaders, expresses a malaise among a large part of the entrepreneurs. Is the political and economic outlook severely blocked? Then what to do? First, act for a policy where social underbidding is not the denominator, with intra-European rules to prevent the current unfair competition, particularly from Eastern countries.

But, above all, is it not time to stop these extreme, demagogic, and inconsequential initiatives and create a front encompassing economic and social forces genuinely attached to the res publica, setting aside personal ambitions?

Relying on slogans (For a Winning France) and preferring small phrases over coherent thinking does not certainly lead in the right direction.

Let’s say it loud and clear: these heterogeneous and heterogeneous protests make no sense. The politico-professional one-upmanship, whether local or national, generates only short-lived controversies… The tears are often brief!

We are at the end of a development model, and we must be capable of constructing another. Faced with this enormous challenge, we must offer hope and perspectives. That is what’s missing today and what the current government struggles to provide.

But can we reasonably believe that everything began after May 7, 2012? Let’s be serious for a moment… At least intellectually!

Finally, should we wonder whether we need to save capitalism from the capitalists?
