On Saturday, November 3rd at Place Masséna/Gioffredo corner at 4 PM, Amnesty International and its young branches from Alpes Maritimes are mobilizing to alert public opinion about the seriousness of the situation in Syria. A staging at Place Masséna will showcase the actors of this drama: primarily the victims, the perpetrators of the crimes, the refugees… the violence…
Amnesty International has repeatedly denounced the extreme gravity of the situation in Syria and reminded that “as the number of civilian casualties continues to rise, it is imperative that all parties involved – government forces and opposition forces – respect international humanitarian law which requires that they take all possible precautions to spare civilians.” (Donatella Rovera)
Amnesty International also stated that “It is a disgrace that the international community remains divided on Syria and does not take into account all the existing evidence on the scale and severity of the fundamental rights violations committed in the country. It is a disgrace that they turn a blind eye while civilians are being severely affected.
The serious issue of Syrian refugees forced to move to neighboring countries also arises. More than 120,000 people are affected, and Sherif Elsayed Ali, head of Amnesty International’s Refugee and Migrant Rights Program, calls on the international community to assist all those who have fled the country, as neighboring states (Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Turkey) cannot bear the burden alone.
