For the past ten years, thanks to the continuous implementation of road safety policies, there has been a consistent and steady decrease in the number of accidents, injuries, and fatalities on the roads of the Alpes-Maritimes.

The active mobilization on the ground of state security forces to crack down on dangerous driving behaviors, as well as the implementation of education and prevention actions, has effectively combated road insecurity in the department. Between 2012 and 2013, the decrease in the number of deaths was over 20%.
The road safety record in the department is, once again this year, overall positive.
The number of fatalities has significantly decreased, with 47 deaths in 2013 compared to 61 in 2012, a reduction of more than 20%.
Fewer pedestrians lost their lives: -5, with 11 in 2013 compared to 16 in 2012, while the number of personal injury accidents decreased by 7.14%.
Nevertheless, the main factors in fatal accidents are still too often present: lack of control, alcohol, drug use, and failure to comply with regulations.
For the Prefecture, the action of the State, both repressive and preventive, will not weaken and will continue in 2014 to protect the lives of drivers and pedestrians on the Cรดte d’Azur:
on the side of repression, with the maintenance of a deterrent presence on the ground, increased road checks, and strengthened action against drug use; on the side of prevention, with strong awareness and training actions aimed at schoolchildren, young workers, seniors, but also motorcyclists.
To combat road insecurity, the Alpes-Maritimes department is indeed implementing effective prevention actions within the framework of the Departmental Road Safety Action Plan (PDASR). This plan targets four priorities: two-wheelers, pedestrians, youth prevention, and the fight against addictive behavior.
These actions will be continued in 2014 to fight against road insecurity, which remains a priority for state services, in partnership with local authorities and numerous associations.
