Media: Four Seasons to “Boost” Women’s Sports

Latest News

Launched in 2014 to develop women’s sports practices and their media exposure, the “24 hours of women’s sports” is reaching new heights this year and becoming the “4 seasons of women’s sports”.

Providing greater media coverage for women’s sports is the shared mission of the Conseil Supรฉrieur de lโ€™Audiovisuel (CSA), the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Women’s Rights, the Ministry of the City, Youth and Sports, and the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) when they created the “24 hours of women’s sports” in January 2014.

Reports, portraits, magazines, competitions… by dedicating a day to women’s sports, television and radio channels have greatly contributed to feminizing sports in our society.

Between 2012 and 2014, the share of women’s sports in televised sports programs more than doubled, increasing from 7% in 2012 to 15% today.

To multiply this result and further embed women’s sports into our practices, the steering committee of the event decided to step up a gear and transform the “24 hours of women’s sports” into the “4 seasons of women’s sports”.

From now on, it will no longer be just a single day dedicated to women’s sports, but 4 operations throughout the year.

These four periods will allow the subject to be approached from different angles and to unite all the players in women’s sports: federations, leagues and professional clubs, associations, local authorities, companies partnering in sports, and audiovisual media.

Each of the partners will lead a season:

The first season will take place on Saturday, February 6, and Sunday, February 7. Initiated by the CSA, it will offer women’s sports significant media coverage throughout the weekend.

The second season, in May 2016, led by the Ministry of the City, Youth, and Sports, will focus on exploring the economic and governance issues of the feminization of sports.

The third season, during the “Feel Sport” week of the CNOSF in September 2016, will offer various events and appointments to encourage women to practice a sport.

The fourth season, in December 2016, will provide opportunities to engage with women’s sports both on the field during matches and through meetings with female athletes and other sports figures.
