A carnival under high surveillance*, disrupted by the weather for its last weekend, but which nevertheless went perfectly well.
The “King of the Media” was a special edition. Indeed, following the tragic events of 2015, the media theme highlighting freedom of expression had imposed itself.
Despite a challenging global context that was not conducive to organizing an event of this magnitude, the Nice Carnival held its ground and, we hope, brought a wave of enthusiasm and joy to those who followed it.
It’s all year round that the participants of the event, whether they are from Nice or enthusiastic about our city, are hard at work for the success of the carnival.
The 11 paid events welcomed 143,580 spectators (outside the free zone) and generated 2,100,000 in ticket revenue.
The Nice Carnival remains an important economic driver in winter for both Nice and the entire Cรดte d’Azur. It significantly contributes to economic activity and leads to direct and indirect benefits, including accommodation, dining, transportation, shopping, and other leisure activities, not to mention show service providers.
In terms of numbers, nearly one million visitors are estimated over the period, 400,000 spectators for all the “Nice Carnival” events, 30 million in economic benefits, and 3,500 induced hotel nights.
“It is today a monument, a heritage, that belongs to the people of Nice, of course, but also to the whole world,” Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, wanted to remind in his report. “Thanks to the participants of the event, we continue together towards an even more festive and universal future, always more contemporary,” he affirmed.
In 2017, Nice Carnival will be “King of Energies” from February 10th to 26th.
