G20: the Young Ecologists call for a different global governance!

Latest News

On November 3 and 4, 2011, the G20 meets in Cannes amid an economic crisis. Faced with pressures from banks and rating agencies, the 20 leaders will compete in ingenuity to make the people swallow the bitter pill of austerity.

This summit is, in fact, merely a charade aimed at prolonging the survival of an exhausted liberal system. Growth, productivity, development, financial market health… Just words with the bitter taste of dรฉjร  vu, which have already plunged us into an unprecedented ecological and social crisis.

In the name of the future, the Young Ecologists demand real regulation of financial flows to put the economy at the service of humanity, society, and the environment.

Some proposals could quickly bring rampant finance to heel: the implementation of a broader Tobin tax, the refusal by states to enter into contracts with banks that have subsidiaries in tax havens, the revision of free-trade agreements imposed to the detriment of Southern countries…

To make their voices heard, they call for mass participation in the counter-G20 in Nice, from November 1 to 4.

The Young Ecologists from the Alpes-Maritimes and elsewhere will be present to express the illegitimacy of the G20 and propose new prospects for youth.

A “Call from the Young Ecologists in the Face of the G20” will be distributed throughout France and during the 4 days of the alter-forum.
