The progress of the Italian “Raddoppio” project for a high-capacity line between Genoa and Ventimiglia, combined with the French decision to integrate the Nice-Italy section into the high-speed line project between Marseille and Nice, demonstrates the importance given, both on the Italian side and the French side, to establishing a strong and efficient link between the two cities.
Genoa and Nice thus see their partnership strengthened and supported by this development of inter-city rail connections, promising new major prospects for exchanges within this characteristic territory known as the Mediterranean Arc.
“The development of exchanges between our two cities must rely on the improvement of our connections, foremost of which is the enhancement of the rail connection between Nice and Genoa,” jointly declared Christian Estrosi on behalf of Nice Côte Azur and Marta Vincenzi, Mayor of Genoa.
To continue: “It is with great satisfaction that we have acknowledged the decision, dated October 19, 2011, of the European Commission, to include the Marseille-Nice-Genoa link within the European Rail Infrastructure Master Plan, known as RTE-T. The Mediterranean Arc between Spain, France, and Italy thus takes shape, along with the desire for strong development of our exchanges.”
And to conclude: “We are also delighted to see Nice and Genoa prominently featured in the list of European rail ‘nodes’ (the Nodes).”
