During the upcoming weekend, the Nice International Half Marathon will celebrate its 24th edition over two consecutive days with 5 race formats (from the 2 km Haribo Kid’s Run to the 21.1 km).
Editions come and go, but they are never the same since this year, the Haribo Kid’s Run and Haribo Family Run events are recording a new participation record!
400 children aged 10 to 16 will kick off the festivities of this 24th edition on Saturday at 7:30 PM from Place Massรฉna in Nice. 5 minutes later, it will be the turn of the 1100 participants (family groupings) to line up at the start line of the Haribo Family Run.
In total, the 5 events of this 24th edition of the Nice International Half Marathon are expected to host more than 10,000 participants.
This year, all eyes will be on Kenyan Kennedy KIPYEKO, wearing bib no. 1 and winner of last year’s edition with a time of 1h01โ31โโ and holder of a personal best of 1h00โ39โโ.
The battle for the podium is also expected to be fierce between Kenyans Leon ERICK and Elijah TIROP, who finished the recent Rome and Verona Half Marathons in 1h00โ45โโ and 1h01โ08โโ respectively.
Their Ethiopian rivals, Tubuja MEGERSA with a personal best of 59โ43โโ and Merkebu AYELE, holder of a personal best of 1h00โ14โโ, should make it challenging for them to secure a podium spot. In memory, the event record of 59โ57โโ (set by Bernard KOECH in 2012) still stands.
On the women’s side, victory should be contested, barring any last-minute entries, between Kenyans Priscah JEPLETING, with a personal best of 1h08โ35โโ and Ednah KIMAIYO, who has a record of 1h11โ55โโ in a half marathon. As a reminder, the women’s record has been held since 2001 by Kenyan Edith MASAร in 1h07โ53โโ.
