Faced with a triumphant National Front and a local leader representing the UMP, the left has a very delicate role to play in the upcoming regional elections.
Indeed, one cannot dismiss the catastrophic scenario that would require, in the face of a significant National Front breakthrough, the withdrawal of the left’s list in favor of a UMP that would perform the same operation in other regions.
To prevent this, we at the PRG believe three conditions must be met:
Unity: The parties and forces that belong to the governing left (I did not say “of the” government…) must unite from the first round. This requires that the main party respects its partners when forming the lists and drafting the program.
Effectiveness: the lists in question should not be compromises between different factions or strongholds but should be the expression of true electoral effectiveness. This can be easily measured.
Inspiration: the kind that the left must infuse into its project. The election will not be decided on the (albeit honorable) record of an institution whose competencies are poorly understood by voters. It will be determined by giving the citizens of PACA the desire to share the fate of a great European region that should no longer be the sum of the zones of influence of two metropolises.
On these three conditions, PRG06 will be vigilant and, as usual, proactive.
